METHODS OF DA'WAH

METHODS OF DA'WAH

The Da'wah literally means "call" or "Inviting people to Islam." Da’wah was the basic mission of all the prophets of Allah (Glory be to Him). They were raised up among their respective people to call them to the worship Allah (Glory be to Him) alone and to abandon the worship of the various false gods that they had invented.

“I have sent to every nation a messenger (proclaiming) Worship Allah and avoid the (worship of) false gods.” Qur’an.Surah Nahl 16:36.

Conditions
There is no one way of doing Da’wah. The Sunnah is to do Da’wah using every available means with the following conditions:
⦁ The means should be Halaal
⦁ It should not involve any innovation (⦁ Bid’ah)
⦁ It does not lead to evil.

Methods
Some of the most common Da’wah methods include:

1. One on One Da’wah
2. Public Lectures and Debates
3. Street Da’wah
4. Casual Da’wah
5. Distributing Pamphlets and Flyers
6. Indirect Da’wah: Overhearing a conversation
7. Dawah through actions
8. Humanitarian Efforts/ Social Service.

The first five methods can be grouped together as “Active Da’wah” whist the final three can be grouped as “Passive Da’wah”.

Da’wah methods are subjected to change as per the time, place and situation. There are no limits to the way of doing Da’wah, however, at all times one should keep his intention free from evil. In today’s time, tweeting a Qur’anic aayat or updating a Hadeeth is also considered Da’wah.

Best person
The best person in the sight of Allah is the one who do Da’wah, as Allah (Glory be to Him). says, “Who is better in speech than one who calls to Allah, does righteous deeds and says indeed I am among the Muslims.” Qur’an.Surah Fusilath 41:33.

Conclusion
Keep in mind at all times that you are on a special mission to deliver a message of inviting people to worship Allah (Glory be to Him). according to the way that He wants to be worshipped. You are to call them to know the truth and how to follow it. You do this with both your kind words and correct actions.

Your words are used in lectures, sermons, books, tapes and dialogs. These words help people to understand the truth of Islam.

Your actions are observed by others through your behavior and manners. You become the role model for what Islam is all about.

Both methods (dawah by words and actions) were used by the Prophet (May Allah honour Him and grant Him Peace)when delivering the message of Islam. He was the perfect example of what he was calling the people to do. Ayesha (r), may Allah be pleased with Her, said that if you would like to see a living example of the Quran walking, then simply look to Prophet (May Allah honour Him and grant Him Peace), His life was the best example of the noble teachings and principles set forth in the Quran.
