TThe Bid’ah with stars

The truth about shooting stars
When I was much younger, I did not know much. I heard then that when you see a shooting star, you should make a wish upon it, and that wish will come true. I bet you have heard a similar thing too.
But that is the misguided notion of the non-believers. The truth is that shooting stars are used to stone the jinns (devils) who go to eavesdrop in the heavens, in order to hear news of the unseen.
The Quran says in the Quran in Chapter 15 Surah Hijr verse 16-18:
And indeed we have put the big stars in the heaven and we beautified it for the beholders.
And we have guarded it (near heaven) from every outcast Shaitan (devil).
Except him (devil) that gains hearing by stealing, he is pursued by a clear flaming fire.
The scholars of Islam have agreed that the ‘clear flaming fire’ refers to ‘shooting stars’. How very different the truth is from falsehood. Imagine, people are making wishes on stones used against the devils! That is wrong on so many levels.
For one, it is absolutely shirk (polytheism). The minute a person believes that something aside Allah has the ability to affect his life or his future, he is committing shirk. And what a grave sin that is! Allah says in Surah Taubah verse 51: “Say: ‘Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us; He is our Protector; and on Allah let the believers put their trust.’
Again is Surah Al Imran verse 160 Allah says: “If Allah helps you none can overcome you; if He forsakes you who is there after that that can help you? In Allah let the believers put their trust.”
Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet (SAW) said: “Your Lord observed: I (Allah) have never endowed my bondsmen with a favor, but a section amongst them disbelieved it, and said: stars, it was due to the stars.”
Believing in stars is therefore irrefutably a great sin, because we must remember that they are nothing but mere creations of Allah. May Allah guide and protect us all from Satan the outcast. Ameen.
