Resurrection A SUMMARY OF EVENTS TO OCCURBy: Muḥammad Ibn Ṣāliḥ al-‘Uthaymīn

Life after Death: The Last Day
Belief in the last day is a mandatory belief – every human being is obligated by Allah to believe in it. And its place in Islam is that it is one of the core fundamental beliefs of a Muslim: believing in Allah, the angels, the scriptures, the prophets, the last day, and pre-decree. Allah often associates the belief in him with belief in the last day, in the afterlife. Therefore whoever does not believe in the last day does not truly believe in Allah. And when people do not believe in the last day, they will not work for it like someone who does believe and, by his actions, hopes for honor on that day. Those who disbelieve in the last day also fear no retribution or punishment thus becoming just as Allah described them:

وَقَالُوا مَا هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا يُهْلِكُنَا إِلَّا الدَّهْرُ
And they say, “There is nothing but our life in this world, we die and we live. And nothing destroys us but time.”

The Day of Resurrection, the Day of Judgment, is called the “last day” because it is a day after which there will be no other. It is the final stage. It is the end goal of all the stages through which we pass (i.e., nonexistence, creation in the womb, life, death and the grave, then the hereafter), and it is the end of our journey. Allah ( تعاىل ) says:

Then, after that you will all certainly die. Then indeed you all, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.

The resurrection is when mankind will rise from their graves to stand before the Lord of creation. Ibn Taymiyyah, in his book “al-‘Aqīdah al-Wāsiṭiyyah,” calls this “the greater resurrection” indicating there is also a lesser resurrection. This lesser resurrection is the one pertaining to each individual as they witness with their own eyes the beginning of the hereafter, their new life after their death. So each individual has his own resurrection; when he or she dies, his or her lesser resurrection has begun. But as for the greater resurrection, these are the major events to occur…

T H E F I R S T E V E N T
The Souls Return to Their Bodies

The first event to occur on the Day of Resurrection is the souls’ return to their bodies. This will occur after the second blast of the horn, after the souls have left their bodies at death. Yet this return of a soul to its body is not the same return that happens in the grave when the deceased is asked (by stern angels) who his Lord is, what his religion is, and who his prophet is. As for the first blow of the horn, Allah will command the angel Isrāfīl to blow into the horn, and at that instance, everyone in the heavens and earth, except whom Allah may will otherwise, will be shocked, terrified and fall dead. Isrāfīl will then blow the horn a second time from which all souls will scatter, returning back to their bodies. Allah says:

And the horn will be blown and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.

And he says:
And the horn will be blown, and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.

‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Amr ( عنه اهلل رضي )narrated a lengthy ḥadīth in which the messenger of Allah said:
Then the horn will be blown and everyone who hears it will tilt his head in attention. And the first one to hear it will be a man repairing his camel’s water trough, then he will be shocked and fall dead and the rest of mankind will also fall dead. Then Allah will send (or he said: will cause to descend) rain like dew from which people’s bodies will grow. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on. It will then be said, “Oh mankind, come to your Lord!” But stop them. They are certainly going to be questioned. Ibn Taymiyyah says, “Then the souls will return to their bodies,” and this indicates that the souls will not disperse from the horn’s blow until after the bodies have become recreated and completed. So when they are created again, the horn will be sounded then the souls return to their bodies.

Also in the author’s words is evidence that the resurrection is understood to be a kind of “return” or “remaking” and not a new creation. Rather, it is a return to something that has left or changed. The body turns to dust, the bones decay, and still Allah will bring together these separate particles back into a formed body. Then the souls will return back to these bodies. Whoever claims the bodies will be new creations, this is a false claim refuted by the Quran, the Sunnah, and the intellect.

As for the evidence from the Quran, Allah ( ّوجلّ عز ) says:

وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ وَهُوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِ
And it is he (Allah) who begins creation; then he repeats it, and that is (even) easier for him.

Meaning: He will repeat the creation that he first began. In a ḥadīth qudsī, Allah says:
» لَيْسَ أَوَّلُ الْخَلْقِ بِأَهْوَنَ عَلِيَّ مِنْ إِعَادَتِهِ «
“The initial creation is no easier for me than remaking him.”

And everything is easy for Allah. He also says:

As we began the first creation, we will repeat it.

And:

Then, after that you all will certainly die. Then indeed you all, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.

Allah also says:

He (man) asks, “Who will give life to bones while they are decayed, disintegrated?” Say: He will give them life who produced them the first time and he is, of all creation, knowing.

As for the evidence from the Sunnah that the bodies will be a repeated re-creation and not a new creation, there are many ḥadīth in which the prophet ( مّوسل عليه اهلل ىّصل) explains this, for example:

» يُحْشَرُ النَّاسُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حُفَاةً عُرَاةً غُرْالً «
Mankind will be resurrected barefooted, naked, and uncircumcised.

The point in the ḥadīth is that mankind themselves is mentioned as being resurrected and not some other new creation. What is important is to know that the resurrection will be a return to the previous bodies.
The proof from an Islamic perspective that people’s souls will return to their bodies and they will be brought back to life—and that the Day of Resurrection will occur in general—can be found in the Quran, the Sunnah, and in the consensus of mainstream Muslims, past and present.

As for evidence from the Quran, Allah ( تعاىل ) emphasizes this resurrection in his book, mentioning about it terrifying descriptions which should instill fear of it and the necessity to prepare for it. He says:

Say: Indeed, the former and the later peoples will all be gathered together for the appointment of a known day.

Those who disbelieve claim they will never be resurrected. Say: Yes, by my Lord, you will surely be resurrected. Then you will surely be informed of what you did, and that is easy for Allah.

And describing that day, Allah says:

Oh mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the (final) hour is a terrible thing. On the day you see it, every nursing mother will be distracted from that (child) she is nursing, every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people (appearing) intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe.
The inevitable reality. What is the inevitable reality? And what can make you know what the inevitable reality is?

The striking calamity. What is the striking calamity? And what can make you know what the striking calamity is? It is the day on which people will become like moths dispersed. And the mountains will become like fluffed wool.

And similar descriptions and names for the last hour are numerous in the Quran, all of which are frightening because it will be a tremendous day. And if we did not believe in it and its serious consequences, then we would not act to prepare for it. We could not prepare for such a grave, serious event unless we believe in it correctly, and there would be no way to do this if its descriptions were not mentioned to us.

As for the evidence of the resurrection from the Sunnah, there are many ḥadīth in this regard. The prophet ( مّوسل عليه اهلل ىّصل ) made clear what will happen on that day, and these ḥadīth will be cited shortly in the sections on the “pool,” the “bridge,” the “books of deeds,” and other things which the messenger ( مّوسل عليه اهلل ىّصل ) explained to us.

As for the evidence according to the consensus of Muslims, the third type of evidence, Muslims have always been in absolute agreement that believing in the last day is part of faith. Because of this, whoever disbelieves in the Day of Resurrection is not a true believer. Of course if such an individual is new to Islam or totally uninformed, then he has an excuse, but after the correct belief is made clear to him, if he insists on disbelieving in the Day of Resurrection then he is a disbeliever.
There is also a fourth type of religious evidence of the resurrection, the previously revealed scriptures. All of them collectively confirm the last day of this life. Because of this, Jews and Christians have always believed in it and continue to do so today. You hear them say things like, “This person is forgiven,” or “May god forgive him,” and similar things that show they still believe in the hereafter and the last day.

There is even a fifth form of evidence which suggests a Day of Judgment – the intellect. The reasoning is that if such a day were not to occur, then there will be little meaning to creation; it would be vain and foolish. But Allah is high above any faults of foolishness and play. What wisdom would there be in creating people who are instructed (to believe and behave a certain way), prohibited from things, and required to endure things but yet then they simply die, vanish with no accounting for any of that, no reward or punishment for any of it? About this, Allah (تعاىل )asks:

أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ
Then did you think that we created you meaninglessly, without purpose and that you would never be returned to us? So exalted is Allah, the King, the Truth. There is no (true) god except him, Lord of the noble throne.

And he says:

Indeed, he who imposed upon you the Quran will surely bring you back to a place of return.

Why would Allah instruct mankind with the Quran, instructing them to act according to it all the while knowing there would really never be a time when people return to him, never a day on which we would be held accountable or rewarded for our compliance with this Quran he has imposed on us? So those are five types of evidence confirming or implying the Day of Resurrection and that people will be brought back to life as their souls return to their bodies. After the souls join their bodies, mankind will then rise from their graves.

T H E S E C O N D E V E N T
Mankind Rises from Their Graves

Ibn Taymiyyah says, “Mankind will then rise from their graves barefooted, naked, and uncircumcised to stand before the Lord of all creations.” His statement, “from their graves,” is based on the fact that most people are buried in graves in the ground although it is obvious that other people died and were not buried in the earth. He said, “to stand before the Lord of all creations,” because Allah ( ّوجلّ عز)will have called them forth at that time. Allah says: ۖ

And listen on the day when the caller will call out from a place that is near, the day they will hear the blast (of the horn) in truth. That is the Day of Rising (from the graves).

And in the ḥadīth that has preceded (pg. 6), the prophet ( مّوسل عليه اهلل ىّصل ( said:

Then the horn will be blown and everyone who hears it will tilt his head in attention—and the first one to hear it will be a man repairing his camel’s water trough—then he will be shocked and fall dead and the rest of mankind will also fall dead. Then Allah will send (or he said: will cause to descend) rain like dew from which people’s bodies will grow. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on. It will then be said, “Oh mankind, come to your Lord!” But stop them. They are certainly going to be questioned.

All people will rise to this momentous call, emerging from their graves to present themselves to the Lord of all creations. :says ( تبارك وتعاىل ) Allah

Do they not think that they will be resurrected for a tremendous day? The day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds.

said ( صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) prophet

The people will be assembled on the Day of Resurrection on a white plain with a reddish tinge like a loaf of pure white bread. There will be no signs or markings on it for anyone.

People will rise from their graves barefooted, wearing neither shoes nor socks; they will have no clothing at all on their legs or feet. They will be naked, having no clothing on the rest of their bodies, and they will be uncircumcised. On the Day of Resurrection, their original creation will not be diminished in anyway. Even the foreskins of those who were circumcised in life will return just as Allah says:
كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُّعِيدُهُ
As we began the first creation, we will repeat it.

So they will return to their first creation having nothing taken away from their bodies, ( صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ) Muhammad Prophet. women and men, together all be will they and said:

» يُحْشَرُ النَّاسُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حُفَاةً عُرَاةً غُرْالً «
Mankind will be resurrected barefooted, naked, and uncircumcised.

His wife, ‘Āishah, asked, “Messenger of Allah, women and men together (like that) looking at each other?” He replied:

Āishah, the circumstances will be more serious than for people to be looking at one another.

Every single person will have enough to be concerned with about himself:

يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ
On the day a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his wife and children. Everyone that day will have enough to make him careless of others.

Neither will men be looking at women, nor women at men. Even a person’s own son and father will flee from him, afraid he may seek justice for rights they may not have fulfilled during their lives. If the circumstances that day will be as grave and terrifying as that, then men and women will not care at all about looking at one another’s bodies. The situation will surely be extremely severe and frightful.
However, after that (the initial rising from the graves naked, as they were first created), people may then be clothed. And the first of creation to be clothed will be Prophet Abraham ( صلّى اهلل عليه وسلّم ) as has been confirmed by prophet ( صلّى اهلل عليه وسلّم )
After mankind rises from their graves, the sun is brought near to them.

Resurrection Allah, the Exalted, will raise the bodies on the Day of Judgment barefooted, naked and uncircumcised.

Barefooted: without any sandals or shoes, i.e., they will have no covering for the foot. Naked: without clothes Uncircumcised: without circumcision Some ahadeeth also mention, 'Buhman' – i.e., without any wealth. Everyone will posses his deeds only. Resurrection (on the Day of Judgment) means reformation and does not mean a new creation as Allah says, “Who will give life to these bones when they have rotted away and became dust? Say, He will give life to them Who created them for the first time!” [Soorah Ya-Sin (36): 79] If it was a new creation, then the body which committed evil deeds in this world would be safe from the torment while the new body would be tormented. This is against justice. Texts (of the religion) and intellect testify that resurrection will not be in a new body but it will be returning (of the soul to the body). - 10 Question: How will the resurrection take place? Man might be dead, (his body) might be eaten by a lion and as such his flesh turns into blood flowing in the animal, etc. Reply: Allah – the One, Who
has power over everything – the One, Who says to the thing 'be' and it is He will order these bodies which have been dispersed, eaten or scattered in the wind - to return and they will return. This belief is based upon the previously mentioned principle, 'It is obligatory upon man to accept all news concerning the Ghayb (without asking how or why).’ After having heard the words of Allah's Messenger that the people will be resurrected barefooted, naked and uncircumcised, Aaisha (radhi Allahu anha) asked, 'Will the men and women be looking at each other?' The Prophet replied, 'The issue will be far more serious than they (would care to) look at each other.' So, on that day no one will look at another because Allah says, “That Day man shall flee from his brother and from his mother and his father and from his wife and his children. Everyman - that Day - will have enough to make him careless of others.” [Soorah Abasa (80): 34 37] - to the extent that man will even forget his offspring and relatives, “When the Trumpet is blown, there will be no kinship among them that Day, nor will they ask of one another.” [Soorah alMu'minoon (23): 101] -

BELIEF IN THE LAST DAY:

The Last Day is the Day when mankind will be resurrected to be asked about their deeds and receive reward or punishment for them. It is called the Last Day,because it is the last day, no day after that. Afterwards, people of Paradise will permanently reside and take their places in it, and people of Hell will permanently reside and take their places in it. [1]

Belief in the Last Day is firmly believing that everything that Allah has told us about in His Book (Al-Quran) and that His Messengerﷺhas told us about what will happen after death, will indeed happen and come to pass. That includes believing in the signs of the Hour which will happen before the Last Day; in death and things that accompany it when a person is on his deathbed; what comes after death, namely the trial of the grave and torment or blessing therein; the Trumpet and resurrection; the standing and terrors of the Day of Resurrection; the details of the gathering and reckoning; Paradise and its delights, the greatest of which will be looking upon the Face of Allah; Hell and its torments, the most severe of which will be their being veiled from seeing their Lord. And belief in the Last Day includes acting in accordance with what is implied by these beliefs, A'laam al-Sunnah al-Manshoorah, 110; Sharh al-Usool al-Thalaathah by Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen, 98-103. [2]

Quran:
One must believe that the life of this world will come to an end. Allah says: "Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish." (Quran Surah 55:26) When Allah wills this world to come to an end, Allah will order Angel Israafeel to blow the Trumpet. At that point, everything on Earth will perish. Then He will order him to blow it again, and upon that, all people will rise from their graves in their bodies, all over the world, from the time of Adam («may god exalt their mention»). Allah says: "And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will collapse and die, except him whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown a second time and behold, they will be standing, looking on (waiting)." (Quran Surah 39:68)

Belief in the Last Day Has Three Parts
1. To believe in the Resurrection

The Resurrection happens when the Horn will be blown for the second time. Afterwards, mankind will be resurrected to face the questioning by the Lord of the worlds. Allah said, what translated means, As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it, (it is) a promise binding upon Us. Truly, We shall do it." [Quran Surah21:104]

The Resurrection is a true event that the Quran, the Sunnah and the consensus of Muslims have confirmed. Allah said, what translated means, After that, surely you will die. Then (again), surely, you will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection.[Quran Surah 23:15-16]

The Muslims are unanimous on confirming the Day of Resurrection. This is the wisdom of Allah, for He decreed that creation will have a day of reckoning for their deeds after He sent them Messengers to inform them of His Commandments. He said, what translated means, Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?[Quran Surah 23:115] and, Indeed, [O Muhammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur'an will take you back to a place of return. Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error."[Quran Surah 28:85]

2. To believe in the Reckoning
In the Last Day, the slave will be rewarded or punished for his deeds. This fact was also confirmed by the Quran, the Sunnah and the consensus of Muslims. Allah said, what translated means, Verily, to Us will be their return. Then verily, for Us will be their Reckoning.[Quran Surah 88:25-26], Whoever brings a good deed shall have ten times the like thereof tohis credit, and whoever brings an evil deed shall have only the recompense of the like thereof and they will not be wronged.[Quran Surah6:160] and, And We shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it And Sufficient are We as Reckoners.[Quran Surah 21:47].

The Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wa-sallam) said, what translated means, Allah will bring the believer closer to Him, and will shield him from being exposed (for his evil deeds in front of everyone). He will say: ˜Do you remember such and such (evil) deed? Do you remember such and such (evil) deed? He will say: ˜Yes, O my Lord! When He gets his confessions for his evil deeds, and he (the salve) thinks that he is close to destruction, he will say: ˜I have preserved you (from being exposed in front of others for these evil deeds) during your lifetime. Today, I forgive them for you. Then, he will be given his record of deeds. As for the disbelievers and the hypocrites, they will be called in public: ˜These are the ones who lied on their Lord (did not follow His Guidance sent down with their Prophets). Therefore, Allahs curse will befall the unjust ones." [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim]

And, Whoever intends to perform a good deed, and performs it, Allah will record it for him as ten deeds, to seven hundredfold, to many more folds. Whoever intends to commit and evil deed, and commits it, Allah will record it as one evil deed.[Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim 237]

Muslims are unanimous that the Day of Reckoning will come. This is the Wisdom of Allah. He revealed the Books, sent down the Messengers and commanded that they be accepted, followed and obeyed. He commanded that whoever opposes them (the Books and the Messengers) are to be fought. He permitted shedding their blood, and the seizure of their children, women and possessions. If there will not be a Day of Reckoning, then this Commandment will be time wasted. Allah is immune from such joyful play. Then surely, We shall question those (people) to who it (the Book) was sent and verily, We shall question the Messengers. Then surely, We shall narrate unto them (their whole story) with knowledge, and indeed We were not absent. [Quran Surah 7:6.7].

3. To believe in Paradise and Hell
They are the final destination for whoever deserves either one of them, and for eternity. Paradise is the destination of the ultimate happiness and joy that Allah prepared for the believers who feared Him, believed in what He required from them to believe and obeyed Him and His Messenger. They are the ones who were sincere to Allah and followers of His Messenger. Paradise contains, of Allahs bounties, What no eye has ever violated, what no ear has ever heard of and what no mind has ever imagined (of joys that Allah hid for the believers).
Allah said, what translated means, Verily, those who believe (in Allah) and do righteous, good deeds, they are the best of creatures. Their reward with their Lord is Gardens of Eternity, underneath which rivers flow, they will abide therein forever, Allah Well-Pleased with them, and they with Him. That is for him who fears his Lord.[Quran Surah98:7-8] and, No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.) [Quran Surah 32:17].

As for Hell, it is the destination of torment and punishment that Allah prepared for the unjust disbelievers. They are the ones who disbelieved in Him and disobeyed His Messengers. Hell contains kinds of punishment and torment that no one could ever imagine. Allah said, what translated means, And fear the Fire, which is prepared for the disbelievers.[Quran Surah3: 131] We have prepared for the wrongdoers, a Fire whose walls will be surrounding them. And if they ask for help (relief, water etc.) they will be granted water like boiling oil that will scald their faces. Terrible the drink, and an evil dwelling.[Quran Surah18: 29] and, Verily, Allah has cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a flaming Fire (Hell). Wherein, they will abide forever, and they will find neither a protector nor a helper. On the Day when their faces will be turned and rolled form all sides in the Fire, they will say: Oh, would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger (Muhammad).[Quran Surah33:64-66] [3]

Details of belief in the Last Day

Belief in the Last Day constitutes, belief in everything Allah and His Messenger, may Allah exalt his mention, has informed us about:

1. To believe in the life of the Barzakh:
This life is the time after one’s death until the Last Day. In it, the believer will live a life of pleasure, while the disbelievers will be punished. Allah says: "The Fire; they are exposed to it, morning and afternoon, and on the Day when the Hour will be established (it will be said to the angels): ‘Make Fir‘awn’s (Pharaoh) people enter the severest torment!" (Quran Surah 40:46)

2. To believe in the Resurrection:
Allah will resurrect mankind, naked, barefooted, and uncircumcised. Allah says: "The disbelievers pretend that they will never be resurrected (for the Account). Say: Yes! By my Lord, you will certainly be resurrected, then you will be informed of (and recompensed for) what you did, and that is easy for Allah." (Quran Surah 64:7)

3. To believe in the Gathering:
Allah will gather all creation together and call them to account. Allah says: "And (remember) the Day We shall cause the mountains to pass away (like clouds of dust), and you will see the earth as a leveled plain, and we shall gather them all together so as to leave not one of them behind." (Quran Surah 18:47)

4. To believe that people will be brought before Allah in ranks:
Allah says: "And they shall be brought before your Lord, standing in ranks: Now certainly you have come to Us as We created you at first. Nay, you thought that We had not appointed to you a time of the fulfillment of the promise." (Quran Surah 18:48)

5. To believe that one’s limbs will bear witness.
Allah says: "Till, when they reach it (Hellfire), their hearing (ears) and their eyes, and their skins will testify against them as to what they used to do. * And they will say to their skins, ‘Why do you testify against us?’ They will say: ‘Allah has caused us to speak, He causes all things to speak: and He created you the first time, and to Him you are made to return.’ * And you have not been hiding yourselves (in the world), lest your ears, and your eyes, and your skins testify against you; but you thought that Allah knew not much of what you were doing." (Quran Surah 41:20-22)

6. To believe in the Questioning:
Allah says: "But stop them; verily they are to be questioned. * ‘What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another [as you used to do in the world]?’ * Nay, but that Day they shall surrender." (Quran Surah 33:40)

7. To believe in the Siraat (Bridge) and that everyone must pass over it:
Allah says: "There is not one of you but will pass over it (Hell); this is with your Lord a Decree which must be accomplished." (Quran Surah 19:71)

8. To believe in the weighing of deeds:
Allah will call people to account and reward those who did well with what they deserve, due to their righteous deeds, their Belief, and adherence to their Messengers, and He will punish those who did evil. Allah says: "And We shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it. And Sufficient are We to take account." (Quran Surah 21:47)

9. To believe in the handing out of Scrolls and Books:
Allah says: "Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, He surely will receive an easy reckoning. * And he will return to his family in joy! * But whosoever is given his Record behind his back. * He will invoke (his) destruction. * And he shall enter a blazing Fire and made to taste its burning." (Quran Surah 84:7-12)

10. To believe that people will be rewarded with Jannah or Hellfire in an everlasting and eternal life:
Allah says: "Verily those who disbelieve from among the people of the Book (Jews and Christians) and the mushrikoon (pagans) will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures * Verily, those who believe and do righteous deeds, they are the best of creatures. Their reward with their Lord is ‘Adn (Eden) Jannah (Gardens of Eternity), underneath which rivers flow. They will abide therein forever, Allah will be pleased with them, and they with Him. That is for him who fears his Lord." (Quran Surah 98:6-8)

11.To believe in the Hawdh(Kauthar), Intercession, and all other things which the Messenger of Allah informed us.

The Merits of Belief in the Last Day:
1.It would make one prepare himself for that Day, by performing good deeds, and competing therein, and abstaining from sinful acts and fearing His punishment.

2.It would comfort the believers; since they know what they missed in this world, Allah would reward them with better in the Hereafter.

3.To distinguish the believers who are truthful in their faith from those who are not. [4]

LIFE AFTER DEATH:

Every day, every moment we human get various thoughts and various questions in our mind, one of them is Does life after death exists? Why do we need a life after death (Hereafter)? Let us analyse the reasons of possibility of life after death in the following article with an open mind.

Introduction
We need a life after death, because complete justice cannot be established in this world. Let us see few examples.

Hitler killed six million Jews during his reign of terror. Even if the police had arrested him, what punishment can the human law give Hitler? The most they can do is to send Hitler to the gas chamber. That will only be punishment for the killing of one Jew. What about the remaining five million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine Jews?

How do we punish a suicide bomber who kills himself and also kills hundreds of innocent people? We will not be able to punish him as he is already dead.

We have heard of judges writing multiple life sentences which can go up to 100 years for the convicted criminals. This is because the criminal deserves so many years of punishment. Will the convict complete his term of punishment if it is 100 years?

True and perfect justice would mean that the people who were victims are also taken care of. What compensation can we give to those innocent people who were killed by people like Hitler and suicide bombers? We will not be able to compensate them because they are already dead.

Several righteous people were tortured and some even killed. Don’t you think those righteous people should be rewarded for their righteousness?

Rational thinking will lead us to conclude that there is definitely a need for an eternal life after death to compensate people for what they did in this world. God who is most just will not let people go without being rewarded or punished for what they did.

Islamic concept of Hereafter:

Islam teaches that the whole world will come to an end one day. All the human beings, from the first man to the last will be brought back to life (Resurrection) on the Day of Judgment and will be questioned for their deeds. People who have done good deeds and lived a life in accordance with God’s command will receive a reward and people who have disobeyed God will be punished. The reward will be Heaven and the punishment will be Hell. The life in Heaven and Hell will be eternal and never-ending. Qur’an.Surah Rum 30:54-57

Since the life in Heaven and Hell is eternal and never ending, Allah (Glory be to Him) can punish Hitler and the suicide bombers million times or even more in the hell fire if He wills. Similarly, Allah (Glory be to Him) can reward and compensate countless times, the righteous and the innocent people who were killed.

Possibility of resurrection after we die:
Allah (Glory be to Him) the Almighty God says in the Qur’an: Say, "He will give them life who produced themthe first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing."Qur’an.Surah Yaseen 36: 79

God who created us for the first time will give us life the second time after we die. We all know that creating something for the first time will be difficult. Repeating the same creation again will not be as difficult as the first time. God did not have any difficulty creating us the first time, why will He find it difficult to give us life after we die? Bringing us back alive after we die is indeed very easy for God.

Issues with the concept of birth and re-birth
The whole of concept of Hereafter (Life after death) rests on complete justice.

One fundamental principle in establishing justice is to make sure that the person who is punished or rewarded is aware why he is punished and rewarded.

For example: the court will not hang the convict if he is insane. The court will wait for him to become sane, as the convict needs to understand that he is being punished for his crime.

You would also be aware that when the judge reads his judgment, he clearly mentions the crimes the convict has done and the corresponding punishment for each crime. This is to ensure that the convict is fully aware, why he is being punished.

Keeping this in mind, we will examine the concept of birth and rebirth.
1. Do we know if our birth in this world is our first or second or third or Nth?
2. Do we know for what previous actions of ours we are rewarded or punished in this birth?

If the answer is NO for both the questions above, how can we say that complete justice has been established?

When our judicial system does not accept punishing a person without letting him know why he is punished, how can we imagine that God who is most wise, Knowledgeable and most just, will punish human beings without letting them know the reason for punishment?

Another aspect of justice is for the victim to know that the aggressor was punished. For example: A man rapes a woman. The man is the aggressor and the woman is the victim. The woman is called to the court and is made to witness the judgment (punishment) for the aggressor. Our common sense would tell us; this is how it should be.

Is this aspect of justice found in birth-rebirth? The answer is NO.

For example: What happened to Hitler? Was he punished? If yes, how many births has he taken? (Ideally, he needs to take 6 million births). Do the people who were killed by him know that Hitler was punished and do they know how he was punished? Were the poor victims of Hitler compensated?

None can answer these questions.

How can we expect such a huge flaw in the justice system of God?

World has to end for complete and perfect justice
The world has to come to an end for complete and perfect justice to be rendered to human beings.

For example: I plant a tree and the tree benefits people by giving fruits and shade. You would agree that I need to be rewarded for it. Let us say I plant the tree and I die a few years after I planted it. The tree continues to live for some 200 years. If I am re-born before those 200 years, I am not rewarded fully for planting that tree as the effects of that good deed still continue. So I will have to wait for 200 years till the tree dies to be fully rewarded for planting that tree.

This is the case with every good deed you initiate. Imagine starting an orphanage. You can be given the full reward only after the orphanage ceases to exist.

This is the case with a bad deed you do as well. For example: Take the example of the atom bomb dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during SECOND WORLD WAR in 1945. Doctors say that the consequences of that bomb are still seen today. As long as the consequences exist, the people who were behind the dropping of the bomb can never be fully punished. They have to be brought into complete account for all the damage they caused.

To put it in a nutshell, unless the world ceases to exist, effects of many good and bad deeds will not cease to exist. So logically, the world has to come to an end for complete and perfect justice to be rendered.

This aspect of justice is totally missing in the concept of birth-rebirth.

Hypnosis and Rebirth
The process of hypnotizing a person to make him remember the details of his previous births is called as Past Life Regression. This subject has been studied by various psychiatrists over a period of time.

One such person who did an experiment on this subject was: Nicholas Spanos, who was a Professor of Psychology and Director of the Laboratory for Experimental Hypnosis at Carleton University, Canada.

Spanos’ research leads him to the conclusion that past lives are not memories, but actually social constructions based on patients acting "as if" they were someone else, but with significant flaws that would not be expected of actual memories. To create these memories, Spanos' subjects drew upon the expectations established by authority figures and information outside of the experiment such as television, novels, life experiences and their own desires.

The details of this information can be found in the book "Multiple Identities & False Memories: A Socio-cognitive Perspective. Washington: American Psychological Association."

For the sake of argument, if we agree that the rebirth is proved through hypnosis, it still brings up the issues mentioned above with justice rendered in the concept of birth and rebirth which will lead to the conclusion that God's system of justice is flawed and inadequate.

Such a conclusion will become irrational as God is Most Just and Most Wise.

Aspects of Justice in Islamic concept of Hereafter
Allah (Glory be to Him) says : And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it, and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one. God Almighty says in the Qur’an.Surah kahf 18: 49
Comment: So each criminal knows what he did and for what he is going to be punished.

Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.Qur’an.Surah Ale’ Imran 3:185
Comment: Victims need not despair or lose hope as the full compensation for them will be given on the Day of Judgment.

Allah (Glory be to Him) the Almighty says in the Qur’an : So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it. Qur’an.Surah Zilzal 99:7-8

Further Allah mentions that “The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His]servants.Qur’an.Surah Ale’ Imran 3: 30
Comment: None can escape being questioned and rewarded or punished for every deed they did.

Allah is never unjust
Allah (Glory be to Him) says in the Qur’an : Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight; while if there is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives fromHimself a great reward.Qur’an.Surah Nisa 4: 40

Comment: No injustice is done and people are compensated multiple times for their good deeds which encourages every human being to do as many good deeds as possible.

Explanation for handicapped children, early deaths etc.
Islam teaches that this whole life is a test and is a temporary place of existence for all the human beings. As mentioned in the Qur’an, [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed – and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.Qur’an.Surah Milk 67: 2

People are tested by various ways. It can be through wealth, health, family, longevity etc.

For example: On the Day of Judgment, a wealthy man will be questioned about how he spent his wealth. On the other hand, a poor man will get full marks for the question on wealth, as he had to suffer lack of wealth or poverty.

On the Day of Judgment, we will be questioned how we used our eyes on this earth. On the other hand, by default a blind person will get full marks for the question on usage of eyes.

On the Day of Judgment, we will be questioned how we used our limbs. On the other hand, by default a handicapped person will get full marks for the question on usage of limbs.

We can understand how things will get even on the Day of Judgment.

As a reminder to everyone, Allah (Glory be to Him) says “Indeed, Allah does not doinjustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight”Qur’an.Surah Nisa 4: 40. Therefore this makes it very clear that Allah (Glory be to Him) is never unjust in the least degree.

Conclusion
1. There is a need for a life after death since justice cannot be fully established in this world.
2. The concept of life after death is very rational.
3. The element of perfect justice is missing in the concept of birth and rebirth.
4. Proof for the concept of rebirth using Hypnosis is ambiguous and not proven.

5. All the elements of justice are found in the Islamic concept of life after death (Hereafter).

6. This world is a temporary place of dwelling and the Hereafter is our permanent and eternal abode.

7. This world is a place of test and trial. We are tested by various ways like: wealth, health, family, death etc.

8. God will not do the least bit of injustice to any of us.

The Last Day:
Belief In the Last Day Since 2012-12-02 The Last Day is the Day when mankind will be resurrected to be asked about their deeds and receive reward or punishment for them. It is called "the Last Day," because it is the last day, no day after that. Afterwards, people of Paradise will permanently The Last Day is the Day when mankind will be resurrected to be asked about their deeds and receive reward or punishment for them. It is called "the Last Day," because it is the last day, no day after that. Afterwards, people of Paradise will permanently reside and take their places in it, and people of Hell will permanently reside and take their places in it. Belief In The Last Day Has Three Parts 1. To believe in the Resurrection. - The Resurrection happens when the Horn will be blown for the second time. Afterwards, mankind will be resurrected to face the questioning by the Lord of the worlds. They will neither be wearing shoes nor circumcised, and they will be naked and visible to others on this state, (however, everyone will be absolutely preoccupied with what they are going to face and the hardship of the Day of Resurrection). Allah said, what translated means, "As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it, (it is) a promise binding upon Us. Truly, We shall do it." [Al-Anbyaa 21:104] {كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُّعِيدُهُ ۚ وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَا ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَاعِلِينَ} الأنبياء: 104 Transliteration: kama badana awwala khalqin nuAAeeduhu waAAdan AAalayna inna kunna faAAileena The Resurrection is a true event that the Qur'aan, the Sunnah and the consensus of Muslims have confirmed. Allah said, what translated means, "After that, surely you will die. Then (again), surely, you will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection." [Al-Muminon 23:15-16] {ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ ﴿١٥﴾ ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ} المؤمنون: 15-16 Transliteration: Thumma innakum baAAda thalika lamayyitoona (15) Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamati tubAAathoona The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam) said, what translated means, "On the Day of Resurrection, Mankind wilt be resurrected while they are bear-footed and naked." The Muslims are unanimous on confirming the Day of Resurrection. This is the wisdom of Allah, for He decreed that creation will have a day of reckoning for their deeds after He sent them Messengers to inform them of His Commandments. He said, what translated means, "Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?" 115 Transliteration: Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakum AAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoona and, "Verily, He Who has given you (O Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam)) the Qur'aan will surely bring you back to the Ma'ad (place of return)." 85 Transliteration: Inna allathee farada AAalayka alqurana laradduka ila maAAadin 2. To believe in the Reckoning - In the Last Day, the slave will be rewarded or punished for his deeds. This fact was also confirmed by the Qur'aan, the Sunnah and the consensus of Muslims. Allah said, what translated means, "Verily, to Us will be their return. Then verily, for Us will be their Reckoning." 25-26 Transliteration: Inna ilayna iyabahum (25) Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum "Whoever brings a good deed shall have ten times the like thereof to his credit, and whoever brings an evil deed shall have only the recompense of the like thereof and they will not be wronged." [ِAl-Ana'am 6:160] {مَن جَاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَا ۖ وَمَن جَاءَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ فَلَا يُجْزَىٰ إِلَّا مِثْلَهَا وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ} الأنعام: 160 Transliteration: Man jaa bialhasanati falahu AAashru amthaliha waman jaa bialssayyiati fala yujza illa mithlaha wahum la yuthlamoona and, "And We shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it And Sufficient are We as Reckoners." [Al-Anbyaa 21:47]. {وَنَضَعُ الْمَوَازِينَ الْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْئًا ۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِهَا ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَاسِبِينَ} الأنبياء: 47 Transliteration: WanadaAAu almawazeena alqista liyawmi alqiyamati fala tuthlamu nafsun shayan wain kana mithqala habbatin min khardalin atayna biha wakafa bina hasibeena The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam) said, what translated means, "Allah will bring the believer closer to Him, and will shield him form being exposed (for his evil deeds in front of everyone). He will say: "Do you remember such and such (evil) deed? Do you remember such and such (evil) deed?' He will say: "Yes, O my Lord!' When He gets his confessions for his evil deeds, and he (the salve) thinks that he is close to destruction, he will say: "I have preserved you (from being exposed in front of others for these evil deeds) during your lifetime. Today, I forgive them for you.' Then, he will be given his record of deeds. As for the disbelievers and the hypocrites, they will be called in public: "These are the ones who lied on their Lord (did not follow His Guidance sent down with their Prophets). Therefore, Allah's curse will befall the unjust ones." [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim]
And,"Whoever intends to perform a good deed, and doesn't do it, Allah will record it for him one deed, and if he performs it, Allah will record it for him as ten deeds, to seven hundredfold, to many more folds. Whoever intends to commit and evil deed, and doesn't do it, Allah will record it for him one good deed, and if he commits it, Allah will record it as one evil deed." [Saheeh al-Bukharee and Saheeh Muslim]
«فمن هم بحسنة فلم يعملها كتبها الله عنده حسنة كاملة . وإن هم بها فعملها كتبها الله عز وجل عنده عشر حسنات إلى سبعمائة ضعف إلى أضعاف كثيرة . وإن هم بسيئة فلم يعملها كتبها الله عنده حسنة كاملة . وإن هم بها فعملها ، كتبها الله سيئة واحدة » صحيح البخاري ومسلم Muslims are unanimous that the Day of Reckoning will come. This is the Wisdom of Allah. He revealed the Books, sent down the Messengers and commanded that they be accepted, followed and obeyed. He commanded that whoever oppose them (the Books and the Messengers) are to be fought. He permitted shedding their blood, and the seizure of their children, women and possessions. If there will not be a Day of Reckoning, then this Commandment will be time wasted. Allah is immune form such joyful play. "Then surely, We shall question those (people) to who it (the Book) was sent and verily, We shall question the Messengers. Then surely, We shall narrate unto them (their whole story) with knowledge, and indeed We were not absent.' [Al-A'araf 7:6-7]. To believe in Paradise and Hell -They are the final destination for whoever deserves either one of them, and for eternity. Paradise is the destination of the ultimate happiness and joy that Allah prepared for the believers who feared Him, believed in what He required from them to believe and obeyed Him and His Messenger. They are the ones who were sincere to Allah and followers of His Messenger. Paradise contains, of Allah's bounties, "What no eye has ever violated, what no ear has ever heard of and what no mind has ever imagined (of joys that Allah hid for the believers)." Allah said, what translated means, "Verily, those who believe (in Allah) and do righteous, good deeds, they are the best of creatures. Their reward with their Lord is Gardens of Eternity, underneath which rivers flow, they will abide therein forever, Allah Well-Pleased with them, and they with Him. That is for him who fears his Lord." [Al-Bayna 98:7-8] {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَـٰئِكَ هُمْ خَيْرُ الْبَرِيَّةِ ﴿٧﴾جَزَاؤُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ۖ رَّضِيَ اللَّـهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَنْ خَشِيَ رَبَّهُ} البينة: 7-8 Transliteration: Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati olaika hum khayru albariyyati (7) Jazaohum AAinda rabbihim jannatu AAadnin tajree min tahtiha alanharu khalideena feeha abadan radiya Allahu AAanhum waradoo AAanhu thalika liman khashiya rabbahu And, "No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do.)' [Al-Sajda 32:17] {فَلَا تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَّا أُخْفِيَ لَهُم مِّن قُرَّةِ أَعْيُنٍ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ} السجدة: 17 Transliteration: Fala taAAlamu nafsun ma okhfiya lahum min qurrati aAAyunin jazaan bima kanoo yaAAmaloona As for Hell, it is the destination of torment and punishment that Allah prepared for the unjust disbelievers. They are the ones who disbelieved in Him and disobeyed His Messengers. Hell contains kinds of punishment and torment that no one could ever imagine. Allah said, what translated means, "And fear the Fire, which is prepared for the disbelievers." 131 Transliteration: Waittaqoo alnnara allatee oAAiddat lilkafireena "We have prepared for the wrongdoers, a Fire whose walls will be surrounding them. And if they ask for help (relief, water etc.) they will be granted water like boiling oil that will scald their faces. Terrible the drink, and an evil dwelling." [Al-Kahf 18: 29] {إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ نَارًا أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَا ۚ وَإِن يَسْتَغِيثُوا يُغَاثُوا بِمَاءٍ كَالْمُهْلِ يَشْوِي الْوُجُوهَ ۚ بِئْسَ الشَّرَابُ وَسَاءَتْ مُرْتَفَقًا} الكهف: 29 Transliteration: inna aAAtadna lilththalimeena naran ahata bihim suradiquha wain yastagheethoo yughathoo bimain kaalmuhli yashwee alwujooha bisa alshsharabu wasaat murtafaqan and, "Verily, Allah has cursed the disbelievers, and has prepared for them a flaming Fire (Hell). Wherein, they will abide forever, and they will find neither a protector nor a helper. [Al-Ahzab 33:64-66] {إِنَّ اللَّـهَ لَعَنَ الْكَافِرِينَ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ سَعِيرًا ﴿٦٤﴾ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ۖ لَّا يَجِدُونَ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا ﴿٦٥﴾ يَوْمَ تُقَلَّبُ وُجُوهُهُمْ فِي النَّارِ يَقُولُونَ يَا لَيْتَنَا أَطَعْنَا اللَّـهَ وَأَطَعْنَا الرَّسُولَا} الأحزاب: 64-66 Transliteration: Inna Allaha laAAana alkafireena waaAAadda lahum saAAeeran (64) Khalideena feeha abadan la yajidoona waliyyan wala naseeran (65) Yawma tuqallabu wujoohuhum fee alnnari yaqooloona ya laytana ataAAna Allaha waataAAna alrrasoola Belief in Life After Death: Believing in the Last Day requires Muslims to also believe in life after death and in the following: 1. The questioning in the grave. The dead will be asked, in their graves, about the lord, the religion and the Prophet they followed during their lifetime. Allah will lead the believer to say what is necessary, saying, "Allah is my Lord. My religion is Islam. My Prophet is Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam)." As for the unjust, Allah will lead him to misguidance saying, in answer to the above questions "What! What! I do not know." Also! the hypocrites and the ones who always had doubts about Allah. The Prophet said “You will be asked, 'What do you know about this man (the Prophet Muhammad)?' Then the faithful believer (or Asma' said a similar word) will reply, 'He is Muhammad Allah's Apostle who had come to us with clear evidences and guidance and so we accepted his teachings and followed him. And he is Muhammad.' And he will repeat it thrice. Then the angels will say to him, 'Sleep in peace as we have come to know that you were a faithful believer.' On the other hand, a hypocrite or a doubtful person will reply, 'I do not know, but I heard the people saying something and so I said it.' (the same)." 2. The torment or joy in the grave. The unjust, the disbelievers and the hypocrites will be tormented in their graves. Allah said, what translated means, "And if you but see when the wrongdoers are in the agonies of death, while the angels are stretching forth their hands (saying): "Deliver your souls; this day you shall be recompensed with the torment of degradation because of what you used to utter against Allah other than the truth. And you used to reject his Ayat (proofs, signs, evidences, etc.) with disrespect" [Al-An'aam 6: 93] {وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذِ الظَّالِمُونَ فِي غَمَرَاتِ الْمَوْتِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ بَاسِطُو أَيْدِيهِمْ أَخْرِجُوا أَنفُسَكُمُ ۖ الْيَوْمَ تُجْزَوْنَ عَذَابَ الْهُونِ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّـهِ غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ وَكُنتُمْ عَنْ آيَاتِهِ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ} الأنعام: 93 Transliteration: walaw tara ithi alththalimoona fee ghamarati almawti waalmalaikatu basitoo aydeehim akhrijoo anfusakumu alyawma tujzawna AAathaba alhooni bima kuntum taqooloona AAala Allahi ghayra alhaqqi wakuntum AAan ayatihi tastakbiroona and about Pharaoh's people, "The Fire; they are exposed to it, morning and afternoon, and on the Day when the Hour will be established (it will be said to the angels): "Cause Pharaoh's people to enter the severest Torment" [Ghafer 40:46] {النَّارُ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيْهَا غُدُوًّا وَعَشِيًّا ۖ وَيَوْمَ تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ أَدْخِلُوا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ أَشَدَّ الْعَذَابِ} غافر: 46 Transliteration: Alnnaru yuAAradoona AAalayha ghuduwwan waAAashiyyan wayawma taqoomu alssaAAatu adkhiloo ala firAAawna ashadda alAAathabi Zaid ibn Thabit (radiyallaahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam) said to his companions what translated means, "I would have asked Allah to let you hear what I am hearing from the punishment in the grave, but for the fear that you would not bury each other after that" Then the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam) turned his face towards them, saying, "Seek refuge in Allah from the torment of the Fire." They said, "We seek refuge in Allah from the torment of the Fire." He said, "Seek refuge in Allah from the torment of the grave." They said, "We seek refuge in Allah from the torment of the grave." He said, "Seek refuge in Allah from all calamities, apparent or hidden." They said, "We seek refuge in Allah from all calamities, apparent or hidden." He said, "Seek refuge in Allah from the calamity of Al-A"war Ad-Dajjal (the False Messiah)." They said, "We seek refuge lit Allah from the calamity of Al-A"war Ad-Da.jjal." As for joys of the grave, they are given to the believers. Allah said, what translated means, "Verily, those who say: "Our Lord is Allah (alone)," and then they stood fast on them (these words that they say), on them the angels will descend (at the time of their death) (saying): "Fear you not, nor grieve! But receive the glad tidings of Paradise which you have been promised?" [Fusilat 41:30] {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّـهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ} فصلت: 30 Transliteration: Inna allatheena qaloo rabbuna Allahu thumma istaqamoo tatanazzalu AAalayhimu almalaikatu alla takhafoo wala tahzanoo waabshiroo bialjannati allatee kuntum tooAAadoona and, "Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat? And you at the moment are looking on? But We (our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not. Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment). Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful? Then if he (the dying person) be of those near ones (close to Allah), (there is for him) rest and provisions, and a Garden of Delights (Paradise)." [Al-Waaqia 56: 83-89] {فَلَوْلَا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ ﴿٨٣﴾ وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ ﴿٨٤﴾ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ ﴿٨٥﴾ فَلَوْلَا إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ ﴿٨٦﴾ تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ ﴿٨٧﴾ فَأَمَّا إِن كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ ﴿٨٨﴾ فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ} الواقعة: 83-89 Transliteration: Falawla itha balaghati alhulqooma (83) Waantum heenaithin tanthuroona (84) Wanahnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walakin la tubsiroona (85) Falawla in kuntum ghayra madeeneena (86) TarjiAAoonaha in kuntum sadiqeena (87) Faamma in kana mina almuqarrabeena (88) Farawhun warayhanun wajannatu naAAeemin Al-Baraa' ibn Azib narrated that the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam) said about the believer, that after he is asked by the angels (about the lord, the religion and the Messenger he followed) and after he replies (saying that his Lord is Allah, his religion is Islam and his Messenger is Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam), "A caller from heaven will say: "My slave has said the truth. Therefore, furnish him (his grave) from Paradise, dress him from Paradise and open a door for him to Paradise." Then he said, "He will receive from its tranquility and perfume. His grave will be enlarged for him the distance that his sight reaches."
Benefits of Believing in the Last Day:
1. The desire to do righteous, good deeds, seeking the good results in the Last Day. 2. The fear from committing and approving of evil deeds, fearing the torment of the Day of Reckoning.
3. The believer feels that this belief makes him forget the hardships he faces in this life. He is preoccupied with working righteousness trying to reach the joys and good rewards of the Last Day.
Some disbelievers reject the idea of life after death saying that this is not possible. This claim is false. Religion, the senses and the mind are used to refute this claim. As for Religion, Allah said, what translated means: "The disbelievers pretend that they will never be resurrected (for the account). Say (O Muhammad): "Yes! By my Lord, you will certainly be resurrected, then you will be informed (and recompensed for) what you did, and that is easy for Allah." [Al-Taghaboon 64:7] {زَعَمَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَن لَّن يُبْعَثُوا ۚ قُلْ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّي لَتُبْعَثُنَّ ثُمَّ لَتُنَبَّؤُنَّ بِمَا عَمِلْتُمْ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ عَلَى اللَّـهِ يَسِيرٌ} التغابن: 7 Transliteration: ZaAAama allatheena kafaroo an lan yubAAathoo qul bala warabbee latubAAathunna thumma latunabbaonna bima AAamiltum wathalika AAala Allahi yaseerun All Scriptures are unanimous on this matter. As for the Senses, Allah demonstrated to his slaves how He raised the dead in this life. In Surat Al-Baqarah. Allah mentioned five examples:
1. The People of Moses said to him, "We will no believe in you unless we see Allah without a barrier." They were seized by death and then Allah resurrected them. To remind the Children of Israel with this story, Allah said, what translated means, "And (remember) when you said: "O Moses: We shall never believe in you till we see Allah Plainly." But you were seized with a thunder-bolt (lightening) while you were looking. Then We raised you up after your death, so that you might be grateful."
2. The story of the murdered man whom the Children of Israel differed as to who killed him. Allah ordered them to sacrifice a cow and strike him with some of its parts. so he can tell them who killed him, "And (remember) when you killed a man and fell into dispute among yourselves as to the crime. But Allah brought forth that which you were hiding. So We said: "Strike him (the dead man) with a piece of it (the cow)." Thus Allah brings the dead to life and shows you His signs so that you may understand."
3. The story of the nation that escaped from its land for fear of death by the hands of their enemies, although their number was in the thousands. Allah made death seize them and then raised them back to life, "Did you (O Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam)) not think of those who went forth from their homes in thousands, fearing death? Allah said to them: "Die." And then He restored them to life. Truly, Allah is full of Bounty to mankind, but most men thank not."
4. The story of the person who passed by a village that all its inhabitants had died. He could not imagine that Allah can resurrect them. Allah made death seize him for a hundred years and then raised him from the dead, Or (think you of) such as he who passed by a town all in utter ruins. He said: "Oh! How will Allah ever bring it to life after it's death?" So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up (again). He said: "How long did you remain (dead)?" He (the man) said: "(Perhaps) I remained (dead) a day or a part of a day." He said: "Nay, you have remained (dead) for a hundred years, look at your food and at your drink, they show no change; and look at your donkey! And thus We have made of you a Sign for the people. Look at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh." When this was clearly shown to him, he said: "I Know (now) that Allah is Able to do all things."
5. The story of Abraham who asked Allah to show him how He raises the dead. Allah ordered him to kill four birds, cut them in parts and spread the parts over the surrounding mountains. He told him to call the dead birds, and that he did. These parts were collected (by Allah's Power) and the birds came back to life and they came to Abraham. Allah said, what translated means, "And (remember) when Abraham said: "My Lord! Show me how You give life to the dead. " He (Allah) said: "Do you not believe?" He (Abraham) said: "Yes (I believe), but to be stronger in faith." He said: "Take four bird, then cause them to incline towards you (slaughter them, Cut them into pieces), and then put a portion of them on every hill, and call them, they will come to you in haste. And know that Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise." [Al-Baqara 2:260] {وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ أَرِنِي كَيْفَ تُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ ۖ قَالَ أَوَلَمْ تُؤْمِن ۖ قَالَ بَلَىٰ وَلَـٰكِن لِّيَطْمَئِنَّ قَلْبِي ۖ قَالَ فَخُذْ أَرْبَعَةً مِّنَ الطَّيْرِ فَصُرْهُنَّ إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ اجْعَلْ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ جَبَلٍ مِّنْهُنَّ جُزْءًا ثُمَّ ادْعُهُنَّ يَأْتِينَكَ سَعْيًا ۚ وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللَّـهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ} البقرة: 260 Transliteration: Waith qala ibraheemu rabbi arinee kayfa tuhyee almawta qala awalam tumin qala bala walakin liyatmainna qalbee qala fakhuth arbaAAatan mina alttayri fasurhunna ilayka thumma ijAAal AAala kulli jabalin minhunna juzan thumma odAAuhunna yateenaka saAAyan waiAAlam anna Allaha AAazeezun hakeemun These are five examples of incidents that happened. They prove that raising the dead can happen by the will of Allah. We mentioned before that Jesus raised the dead from their graves, by the will of Allah. As for the Mind, there are two ways to correctly use it to confirm raising the dead: 1. Allah is the One who started the creation of heavens and earth. The One who is Capable of starting the creation is also Capable of restarting it. Allah said, what translated means, "And He is Who originates the creation, then will repeat it (after it has been perished), and this is easier for Him." [Ar-Room 30:27] {وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ الْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُ وَهُوَ أَهْوَنُ عَلَيْهِ} الروم: 27 Transliteration: Wahuwa allathee yabdao alkhalqa thumma yuAAeeduhu wahuwa ahwanu AAalayhi and, "As We began the first creation, We shall repeat it, (it is) a promise binding upon Us. Truly, We shall do it." [Al-Anbiyaa 21:104] {كَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُّعِيدُهُ ۚ وَعْدًا عَلَيْنَا ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا فَاعِلِينَ} الأنبياء: 104 Transliteration: kama badana awwala khalqin nuAAeeduhu waAAdan AAalayna inna kunna faAAileena and to the one who denied that Allah will give life to the bones when they have rotted away, "Say (O Muhammad (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam)): ""He will give life to them Who created them for the first time! And He is the All-Knower of every creation." [Yaseen 36:79] {قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا الَّذِي أَنشَأَهَا أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ} يس: 79 Transliteration: Qul yuhyeeha allathee anshaaha awwala marratin wahuwa bikulli khalqin AAaleemun 2. It is noticed that the soil can become dry and that trees and plants die. When Allah sends the rain, the soil comes back to life and plants of all kinds grow and become green. The One who brings life back to the dead soil is Capable of raising the dead. Allah said, what translated means, "And among His Signs (in this), that you see the earth barren, but when We send down water (rain) to it, it is stirred to life and growth (of vegetation). Verily, He Who gives it life, surely. (He) is Able to give life to the dead (on the Day of Resurrection). Indeed! He is Able to do all things." [Fusilat 41:39] {وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنَّكَ تَرَى الْأَرْضَ خَاشِعَةً فَإِذَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ اهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِي أَحْيَاهَا لَمُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ ۚ إِنَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ} فصلت: 39 Transliteration: Wamin ayatihi annaka tara alarda khashiAAatan faitha anzalna AAalayha almaa ihtazzat warabat inna allathee ahyaha lamuhyee almawta innahu AAala kulli shayin qadeerun "And We send down blessed water (rain) from the sky then We produce therewith gardens and grain (all harvests that are reaped). And tall date-palms, with ranged clusters; A provisions for (Allah's) slaves. And We give life therewith to dead land. Thus will be the Resurrection (of the dead)."
Transliteration: Wanazzalna mina alssamai maan mubarakan faanbatna bihi jannatin wahabba alhaseedi (9) Waalnnakhla basiqatin laha talAAun nadeedun (10) Rizqan lilAAibadi waahyayna bihi baldatan maytan kathalika alkhurooju Some misguided people reject punishment or joy in the grave claiming that this cannot happen. They claim that if one exhumes the dead, he will find the grave as it was left and that it did not change in size. This claim is rejected by the Shari'ah, the senses and the mind: As for the Shari'ah, we mentioned some texts before. These texts confirm the punishment or joy in the grave. Ibn Abbas (radiyallaahu anhuma) said, "The Prophet passed by some walls in Madinah. He heard the screams of two persons who were being punished in their graves." The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam) mentioned the reasons behind this punishment, "One of them did not protect himself (his clothes) form urine. The other one was spreading (sawing) differences (between people)." As for the Senses, we know that, while dreaming, the one who is asleep sees that he is enjoying a huge space or that he is feeling pain because he is squeezed in a small area. Sometimes, one's sleep is interrupted because of such nightmares, although he is still in his bed. Sleeping is similar to dying. Allah said, what translated means, "It is Allah Who takes away the souls at the time of their death, and those that die not during their sleep. He keep those (souls) for which He had ordained death and sends the rest for a term appointed. Verily, in this are signs for a people who think deeply." [Az-Zumur 39:42] {للَّـهُ يَتَوَفَّى الْأَنفُسَ حِينَ مَوْتِهَا وَالَّتِي لَمْ تَمُتْ فِي مَنَامِهَا ۖ فَيُمْسِكُ الَّتِي قَضَىٰ عَلَيْهَا الْمَوْتَ وَيُرْسِلُ الْأُخْرَىٰ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ} الزمر: 42 Transliteration: Allahu yatawaffa alanfusa heena mawtiha waallatee lam tamut fee manamiha fayumsiku allatee qada AAalayha almawta wayursilu alokhra ila ajalin musamman inna fee thalika laayatin liqawmin yatafakkaroona As for the Mind, sometimes one sees dreams that may later happen in real life. Some Muslims may see the Prophet in their dreams. Whoever sees the Prophet, on the shape that he was described in books of Hadith, is saying the truth in that he saw him. This happens while one is still in his bed. If this is the case in this material life, what about matters of the other life? As for their claim that when one exhumes a dead body, that no signs of abnormal change, either in the body or the grave itself, are detected, we say the following: 1. The Shari'ah cannot be rejected by depending on these doubts. These doubts can easily be refuted, providing one uses his mind. There is a popular saying: "There are many who refute a truth, while the problem lies with their limited comprehension." 2. Life in the grave is a matter of the unseen. The senses cannot unveil the unseen. If matters of the unseen are unveiled by the senses, then belief in the unseen will not have any useful meaning, in which case believing or disbelieving is irrelevant, since there would be no matters of the unseen to believe in. 3. Only the dead feel the punishment or joy in the grave. Also, the one who is dreaming is the only one who is experiencing the pain of being squeezed in a small space or the joy of being in an open area. Others do not feel the same as the one who is experiencing these dreams, although he is still in his bed. The Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa-sallam) used to receive revelation while he was among his companions and the companions did not hear the revelation. Sometimes, the angel came in the shape of an invisible man. The companions did not see the angel while he was delivering revelation to the Messenger. 4. Humans have limited comprehension and understanding of the universe. They only understand what Allah gave them the capability to understand. They do not understand all of the existence. The seven heavens, the earth and all that which is therein praise Allah. Allah, sometimes, gives the power to some of His creation to hear such praise. Humans cannot hear such praise. Allah said, what translated means, "The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein, glorify Him and there is not a thing but glorifies His praise. But you understand not their glorification. Truly, He is Ever Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving." [Al-Israa 17:44] {تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ السَّبْعُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ وَإِن مِّن شَيْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّهُ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا} الإسراء: 44 Transliteration: Tusabbihu lahu alssamawatu alssabAAu waalardu waman feehinna wain min shayin illa yusabbihu bihamdihi walakin la tafqahoona tasbeehahum innahu kana haleeman ghafooran Also, devils and the Jinn go about in the earth. The Jinn came to the Messenger and listened to his recitation of the Qur'aan. When he finished, they went back to their nation to convey the Message to them. However, this creation is out of the reach of human's Comprehension, "O Children of Adam! Let not Satan deceive you, as he got your parents (Adam and Eve) out of Paradise, stripping them of their raiment, to show them their private parts. Verily, he and his soldiers see you from where you will not see them. Verily, We made the devils protectors (and helpers) for those who believe not." [Al-A'raaf 7:27]. {يَا بَنِي آدَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ كَمَا أَخْرَجَ أَبَوَيْكُم مِّنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَنزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْآتِهِمَا ۗ إِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيَاطِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ} الأعراف:27 Transliteration: Ya banee adama la yaftinannakumu alshshaytanu kama akhraja abawaykum mina aljannati yanziAAu AAanhuma libasahuma liyuriyahuma sawatihima innahu yarakum huwa waqabeeluhu min haythu la tarawnahum inna jaAAalna alshshayateena awliyaa lillatheena la yuminoona Creation can neither reach what is beyond their comprehension nor understand all the existence. Therefore, one cannot dispute "flatters of the unseen that he cannot comprehend. Source: AHYA.ORG - Authentic Islamic Resources and Information

THE PHYSICS OF THE DAY OF JUDGMENT

The idea that there could be life beyond the grave raises many questions. What happens to us on dying? What is soul? Does it leave the body to enter
the spiritual world which is beyond human perception in some other dimension? Are the souls reincarnated to enter a body of a newborn in an endless
cycle of life and death as in the beliefs of some eastern religions? Is the soul taken and kept somewhere until the Day of Judgment to be reunited with
the body that rises from the grave? All the above are spiritual questions which cannot be answered from the view point of science. The most direct
and meaningful question is addressed in the Quran:
The belief in life after death is part of many religious traditions and the concept that bad or good deeds in this world will be repaid with punishment or
paradise in afterlife is a major part of Islamic teachings. Numerous verses in the Quran describe the Day of Judgment, resurrection and life after death;
the main recurring themes are the final earthquake and that mankind will physically rise from the grave to see what they have done before. In the
following pages I would like to show that the various descriptions of the Day of Judgment given in the Quran are not just a myth or wishful thinking but
are based on real scientific principles. Rising up from the grave and coming back alive can happen simply with the reversal of time.
