PROPHET MUHAMMAD'S ﷺ TRUST IN ALLAAH
Muhammad ﷺ preached to the people to trust in Allaah. His whole life was a sublime example of the precept. In the loneliness of Makkah, in the midst of persecution and danger, in adversity and tribulations, and in the thick of enemies in the battles of Uhud and Hunayn, complete faith and trust in Allaah appears as the dominant feature in his life. However great the danger that confronted him, he never lost hope and never allowed himself to be unduly agitated.
Quran
Even though the enemies had surrounded the house, he left the house reciting the Quranicayath (which means): "We have set a barricade before them and a barricade behind them and (thus) have covered them so that they see not" Quran SurahYaseen36: 9
A guard was kept at the Prophet's house in Madeenah because of the danger that surrounded him but he had it withdrawn when the Quranicayath was revealed (which means): "Allaah will protect you from the people". Quran Surah Maidah 5: 67
Hadith
Abu Taalib knew the feelings of the Quraysh when the Prophet started his mission. He also knew the lengths to which the Quraysh could go, and requested the Prophet to abandon his mission, but the latter calmly replied: "Dear uncle, do not go by my loneliness. Truth will not go unsupported for long. The whole of Arabia and beyond will one day espouse its cause." [IbnHishaam]
A dejected and oppressed companion was comforted with the words:"By Allaah, the day is near when this faith will reach its pinnacle and none will have to fear anyone except Allaah." [Al-Bukhaari: 6943]
Trust during hard times
It was the same trust in Allaah which emboldened the prophet to say his prayers openly in the Haram (sacred Mosque of Makkah) in the teeth of opposition. The Quraysh were once collected there and were conspiring to put an end to his life when he next entered the Haram. His young daughter Faatimah who happened to overhear their talk rushed weeping to her father and told him of the designs of the Quraysh. He consoled her, did his ablutions and went to the Ka'bah to say prayers. There was only consternation among the Quraysh when they saw him [Ahmad: 4/269, SaheehibneHibbaan: 6857].
Then leaving his house for Madeenah he asked Ali to sleep on his bed and told him: "Do not worry, no one will be able to do you any harm" [At-Tabari, IbnHishaam]
Abu Bakr(R) was frightened when pursuers came close to the cavern in which he and Prophet Muhammad hiding during their flight, but the Prophet heartened him: "Grieve not. Allaah is with us."(Al Bukhari: 3653)
Plot to kill Prophet
A man was caught waiting in ambush to assault the Prophet but he was directed to be released with the words: "Even if this man wanted to kill me, he could not." [Ahmad]
A Jewish woman from Khaybar had put poison in the Prophet's food. He spat it out after taking a morsel but a companion who had his fill died the next day. The Jewess was brought before the prophet who questioned her: "Why did you do this?" "To kill you," was her defiant reply. She was told, "Allaah would not have allowed you to do it."[Muslim: 2190]
During battles
In the battle of Uhud when the rear guard action of the Makkan army had disorganized the Muslim army and had turned the tables, the Prophet stood as firm as a rock even though he had suffered personal injuries. When Abu Sufiyaan taunted the Muslims and shouted "Victory to Hubal!" (Hubal was one of their idols), the Prophet asked Umar to shout back: "Allaah is our protector and friend. You have no protector and friend. Allaah is Great, Magnificent." [IbnHishaam]During battles
Again in the battle of Hunayn, when the unexpected assault of the army had swept the Muslim force off its feet and a defeat seemed imminent, the Prophet did not yield ground. With trust in Allaah he showed such courage that the Muslim army rallied behind him to win a signal victory.(Al Bukhari: 2930)During battles

Trust/Reliance upon Allah (Al Tawakkul)
"If you had all relied on Allah (SWT) as you should rely on Him, then He would have provided for you as He provides for the birds, who wake up hungry in the morning and return with full stomachs at dusk."
[At-Tirmidhi]
Do you truly have full trust in Allah (SWT)? There are some of us who strive our utmost to prepare for things wherein no certainty exists, whilst others fail to prepare for certain things wherein lies no doubt. And let us not forget those that believe their destiny is completely in their own hands, whilst their counterparts hold, in what can only be described as 'bravery', that they have full trust in Allah (SWT), thus granting themselves the ticket to do nothing at all.
Tawakkul is a light for our hearts and a means for us to seek nearness towards Allah (SWT) in a manner that absolutely nothing else can achieve. The essence of this quality of the heart is built upon two very important pillars: dependence upon Allah and trust in Allah.
We may often trust a person, without necessarily depending upon them, and likewise we may depend upon a person without fully trusting them. However when it comes to Our Lord (SWT), both exist simultaneously in perfection. So why are we so ready to trust others, but so quick to question Allah (SWT)? I'm sure we can all recall at least one incident in our lives when we experienced the rahma of Allah (SWT) in disguise. What did we do? What did we say? When one of the innumerable blessings we failed to count and thank our Lord for was unexpectedly taken from us, what thoughts rushed to our minds? What regrettable words came from our mouths? Why has this happened? What did I do wrong? Why has my blessing been taken away from me? Such spur of the moment questions, tainted by our false comprehension that the blessings bestowed upon us belonged to us, in an instant, shakes our building of tawakkul, sometimes causing it to collapse, consequently opening up a door for our enemy -Shaytaan and closing a door for us to Our Beloved (SWT).
Sisters, why do we become so devastated at the onset of calamity? Why do we lose all hope? Why do we not simply trust in Allah (SWT)? For every goodness and blessing we own has only been by His Rahma (Mercy). The amaanah (trusts) within our possessions are only ours for a temporary period of time; they belong to Allah and one day we'll have to return them to Him (SWT). When something is taken away from us or we are faced with a calamity, always remember that Allah is testing our Eemaan (faith) and He (SWT) knows that we are strong enough to deal with it, otherwise it would never have come to us in the first place, for Allah (SWT) never burdens a soul with more than it can bear.

Have full Tawakkul (trust) in Allah (SWT) and never belittle that trust. For the trust we have in Allah is a path to success and a means to achieving victory. Never lose hope and always remember that the situation of a true believer is always one of goodness: For when they are granted a blessing from Allah (SWT) they praise Him and due to that they are rewarded and their blessings increase and when a calamity strikes they patiently persevere, and as a result of which they are rewarded and granted something better than what they lost.
Put your trust in Allah. Allah loves those that trust [in Him].
[Surah al-Imran 3: 159]
Know that Allah (SWT) is pleased with those servants who persevere and He (SWT) loves those that trust in Him. Build a strong foundation of trust and allow for it to accompany you in all that you do. For it is a quality that will remain sufficient for you in the matters of this world, your deen (religion) and in the Aakhira (hereafter) insha'Allah. A beautiful example that never fails to touch my heart is that of our mother: Umm Salamah (RA), when her husband Abu Salamah (RA) passed away and she remained steadfast, uttering the best statement at the time of any calamity: 'Inna Lillaahi wa inna ilayhi raaji'oon -Surely to Allah we belong and surely to Him we will return'. And she received exactly as Allah (SWT) promises: blessings and mercy:
'And give good news to those who persevere, those who say, when a misfortune strikes them, Surely to Allah we belong, and surely to Him we will return, these are the ones on whom blessings from their Lord descend, and mercy, and these are the ones who are rightly guided'.
[Surah Al-Baqarah 2: 155-157]
For who could be better as a husband than Rasoolullah (SAW) -A gift to our mother, Umm Salamah (RA) for her tawakkul in Allah (SWT).
It may seem difficult to imagine, and I don't make out that it's always the easiest of things to do. However, with complete conviction, as I too have witnessed such a great blessing from Allah (SWT) after a calamity had befallen me, that if you truly trust in your Lord, with every atom's weight of your heart, Allah will provide for you in ways you could never have imagined.
Let us take a moment to ponder over one ayah in the Qur'an, yes, just one ayah. If I asked you to guess which ayah it is, what would you say? Would it even cross your mind that you read this ayah without fail in every single rakat (standing) of your salah?
'You Alone we worship and You Alone we ask for help'
[Surah al-Faatihah: 5] "The Opening"
This ayah clearly establishes the tawakkul of the believer. Some of the Salaf (early believers) have said, "Al-Faatihah is the secret of the Qur'an, while these words are the secret of Al-Faatihah." So how can we stand before Allah day in and day out, uttering such perfect words of tawakkul, and yet not sincerely mean them? For belief, undoubtedly, must be followed by action.
Our Lord (SWT) With His Hikmah, Love and Rahmah knows exactly what is good for us, so let us not be amongst the sinful servants of Allah (SWT) who suspect Him of wrongdoing. So the next time you stand before Allah (SWT) and consult Him in your affairs, don't think He'll give you what is good for you; know with certainty that He (SWT) will:
'Say: "Nothing will befall us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is our Protector. In Allah let the believers put their trust."
[Surah At-Tawbah: 51]

Importance and Benefits of Tawakkul | Trust and Reliance on Allah
Importance of Tawakkul
Tawakkul is basically the “trust and reliance on Allah” that is accepting the results that He decides regardless of how they may turn out to be. We may face challenges and difficult situations in our life but we have to face them strongly while believing in Allah Almighty that is the concept of Tawakkul. Tawakkul is our belief and the attitude that we have about putting trust in Allah to take care of all affairs of our life.
In Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says: “And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever places his trust in Allah, Sufficient is He for him, for Allah will surely accomplish His Purpose: For verily, Allah has appointed for all things a due proportion.” (Quran, 65:3). From this verse, we can say that always trust and rely on Allah because He is the Best Sustainer and He will guide us in our difficult time and surely He will protect us.
In Holy Quran Allah Almighty clear that Tawakkul is not an option rather a requirement. Allah says in Quran in words: “…And put your trust in Allah if you are believers indeed” (Quran, 5: 23). When we talk about Tawakkul we say that we depend on Allah for everything and place reliance on Him. We trust on Allah on all things no matter its worldly affairs or related to Deen.
Tawakkul involves belief, dependence and action mean we have to rely on Allah because without His permission nothing could happen or occur. If we believe on Allah then it means we have our faith in Him, so we can say Tawakkul is the part of One’s faith. In Holy Quran Allah says: “The Believers Are Only Those Who, When Allah Is Mentioned, Feel a Fear in Their Hearts and When His Verses Are Recited to Them, They Increase Their Faith; And They Put Their Trust In Their Lord.” (Quran, Surah Al-Anfal)
Tawakkul is a kind of light for our hearts and a means for us to seek nearness towards Allah (SWT) in a manner that absolutely nothing else can achieve. The element of this quality of the heart is built upon two very important pillars: dependence upon Allah and trust in Allah.
Levels of Tawakkul
There are some levels of Tawakkul through which we can understand it easily and we are going to discuss them below:
⦁ If we have to describe the first level of Tawakkul it could be Tawhid that is the basis for Tawakkul. We have to believe that Allah Almighty is the Best Sustainer and He is All-Knowing, He is All-Capable and sufficient to rely on. All things could happen or occur only with His Will and Instructions.
⦁ The second level is to believe that every matter has a cause or a means. Some people give up utilizing these means due to their ignorance and think that this is reliance on Allah Almighty. They wait for Allah (SWT) to send down their provisions, feed them and take care of their concerns and affairs while they do nothing. We should not be complacent or inactive; we should do everything that’s available to us to reach our goals. We have to believe on Allah but with that, we have to do something by ourselves for living our lives.
⦁ The third level is to remain firm in relying on Allah alone. Indeed, a person’s reliance on Allah cannot be fulfilled until one relies on Him alone.
⦁ The fourth level is to depend on Allah wholeheartedly and feel tranquility when doing so, to the extent that one does not feel confused about their provision.
⦁ The highest level of Tawakkul, towards which we should all seek, of course, is to realize that the element of reliance on Allah is to trust all matters to Him voluntarily, without feeling forced to do so.
Benefits of Tawakkul
There are benefits of Tawakkul some of them we will discuss below:
⦁ No matter what hardship or misfortune befalls one, it will be accepted without panic and the heart will remain strong in the face of such hardships. Strong belief that is Tawakkul will indicate that Allah’s wish is in this occurrence and it cannot be opposed. It is the Mercy of Allah that He has told us that our responsibility is limited. And that is the meaning of “On no soul does Allah place a burden greater than it can bear” (Quran 2: 286). We should believe on Allah no matter what he has put on us it will going to be an end by His Mercy.
⦁ Tawakkul is that it invites us to connect to a powerful associate who is no one but the Lord Himself. The more we rely on Him, the greater the chances that we will try to please Him by following the guidance He has given us, which in turn will lead to goodness in this world and success in the Hereafter.
⦁ The believers who have Tawakkul will attribute everything to the Will and Pleasure of Allah (SWT). He will thus be penetrating with obedience. Such a man will not be arrogant and imperious.
⦁ By fully trusting on Allah and relying on Him, we are not depressed by what we have lost or intoxicated by our success. We know that all things are in Allah’s hands. And that makes us not only humbler but more submissive to Lord, thus better believers.
Relying on Allah Almighty can impart full satisfaction and peace in a person. Muslims should never become disheartened and discouraged in difficult situations. Repose all your trust in Allah (SWT). Let’s seek to understand the concept of Tawakkul and to make it part of our belief systems. We will see that things will not only get resolved easier with His help, but Tawakkul will also relieve us from the day to day suffering and worries associated with the challenges of this life. May Allah help us in all difficult situations and give us the strength to overcome them. Ameen!
