Misconception Surah 95 · Ayah 3

Distance between Makkah, Madeenah, Mina, Muzdalifah and ‘Arafat

Distance between Makkah, Madeenah, Mina, Muzdalifah and ‘Arafat

Question
What is the distance from Makkah to Madina, as well as to Mina and to ‘Arafat; and, also between Mina and ‘Arafat, and Mina and Muzdalifah? I believe that this information is very essential for the pilgrim to know, so that he may have a clear mental picture [of his pilgrimage journey] and perfectly perform his Hajj (major pilgrimage), Allah willing. Please advise.

Answer

Praise be to Allah.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Him, and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The distance from Makkah to Madina is about 450 km. Mina, Muzdalifah and ‘Arafat are all located inside [the city of] Makkah, but whilst the first two are within the Sacred Precincts, ‘Arafah is outside. The distance between ‘Arafah, Mina and Muzdalifah, and the Sacred Precincts is a few kilometers, with the furthest being ‘Arafah, followed by Muzdalifah and then Mina. In other words, Mina is located about 7 km from the Sacred Mosque, Muzdalifah at about 10 km and ‘Arafat is nearly 20 km away. As for the distance between ‘Arafat and Muzdalifah, it is approximately 7 km.
Allah Knows best.
