Misconception Surah 95 · Ayah 3
Forbidding non Muslims from entering Makkah
Forbidding non Muslims from entering Makkah
Question
Why are non-Muslims not allowed in Mecca and other mosques?
Answer
Praise be to Allah.
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
A non-Muslim is not allowed to enter Makkah, the evidence is the saying of Allah (which means): {Verily, the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, and in the Message of Muhammad - - are Najasun (impure). So let them not approach Al-Masjid Al-Haram after this, their [final] year.}[Quran 9:28]. Imam Al-Baghawi interpreted the above verse saying: "Allah wanted to forbid them from entering the Haram (i.e. Makkah), because if they enter Makkah, they will be near the Haram Mosque.' So, this verse is evidence about forbidding the non-Muslims from entering Makkah, may Allah protect it, and the reason why they are prohibited is because they are impure. Ash-Shawkaani said: 'They are prohibited from entering Makkah because they are impure."
Therefore, the non-Muslims are morally impure because of associating partners with Allah, and many of them are also physically impure, as they do not perform Ghusl (ritual bath) when in sexual defilement, they do not purify themselves, and do not avoid touching impurities. As regards the ruling of entering mosques other than the Haram mosque in Makkah, Allaah Knows best.
