سورة المدثر

Ayat 1

O you who covers himself [with a garment],1 [Al-Muddaththir: 1]

Ayat 2

Arise and warn. [Al-Muddaththir: 2]

Ayat 3

And your Lord glorify. [Al-Muddaththir: 3]

Ayat 4

And your clothing purify. [Al-Muddaththir: 4]

Ayat 5

And uncleanliness1 avoid. [Al-Muddaththir: 5]

Ayat 6

And do not confer favor to acquire more1. [Al-Muddaththir: 6]

Ayat 7

But for your Lord be patient. [Al-Muddaththir: 7]

Ayat 8

And when the trumpet is blown, [Al-Muddaththir: 8]

Ayat 9

That Day will be a difficult day [Al-Muddaththir: 9]

Ayat 10

For the disbelievers - not easy. [Al-Muddaththir: 10]

Ayat 11

Leave Me with the one I created alone1 [Al-Muddaththir: 11]

Ayat 12

And to whom I granted extensive wealth [Al-Muddaththir: 12]

Ayat 13

And children present [with him] [Al-Muddaththir: 13]

Ayat 14

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. [Al-Muddaththir: 14]

Ayat 15

Then he desires that I should add more. [Al-Muddaththir: 15]

Ayat 16

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. [Al-Muddaththir: 16]

Ayat 17

I will cover him with arduous torment. [Al-Muddaththir: 17]

Ayat 18

Indeed, he thought and deliberated.1 [Al-Muddaththir: 18]

Ayat 19

So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. [Al-Muddaththir: 19]

Ayat 20

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. [Al-Muddaththir: 20]

Ayat 21

Then he considered [again]; [Al-Muddaththir: 21]

Ayat 22

Then he frowned and scowled; [Al-Muddaththir: 22]

Ayat 23

Then he turned back and was arrogant [Al-Muddaththir: 23]

Ayat 24

And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. [Al-Muddaththir: 24]

Ayat 25

This is not but the word of a human being." [Al-Muddaththir: 25]

Ayat 26

I will drive him into Saqar.1 [Al-Muddaththir: 26]

Ayat 27

And what can make you know what is Saqar? [Al-Muddaththir: 27]

Ayat 28

It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], [Al-Muddaththir: 28]

Ayat 29

Altering [i.e., blackening] the skins. [Al-Muddaththir: 29]

Ayat 30

Over it are nineteen [angels]. [Al-Muddaththir: 30]

Ayat 31

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allāh intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allāh send astray whom He wills and guide whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And it [i.e., mention of the Fire] is not but a reminder to humanity. [Al-Muddaththir: 31]

Ayat 32

No! By the moon. [Al-Muddaththir: 32]

Ayat 33

And [by] the night when it departs. [Al-Muddaththir: 33]

Ayat 34

And [by] the morning when it brightens, [Al-Muddaththir: 34]

Ayat 35

Indeed, it [i.e., the Fire] is of the greatest [afflictions]. [Al-Muddaththir: 35]

Ayat 36

As a warning to humanity - [Al-Muddaththir: 36]

Ayat 37

To whoever wills among you to proceed1 or stay behind. [Al-Muddaththir: 37]

Ayat 38

Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained1. [Al-Muddaththir: 38]

Ayat 39

Except the companions of the right,1. [Al-Muddaththir: 39]

Ayat 40

[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other [Al-Muddaththir: 40]

Ayat 41

About the criminals, [Al-Muddaththir: 41]

Ayat 42

[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" [Al-Muddaththir: 42]

Ayat 43

They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, [Al-Muddaththir: 43]

Ayat 44

Nor did we used to feed the poor. [Al-Muddaththir: 44]

Ayat 45

And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], [Al-Muddaththir: 45]

Ayat 46

And we used to deny the Day of Recompense [Al-Muddaththir: 46]

Ayat 47

Until there came to us the certainty [i.e., death]." [Al-Muddaththir: 47]

Ayat 48

So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. [Al-Muddaththir: 48]

Ayat 49

Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away. [Al-Muddaththir: 49]

Ayat 50

As if they were alarmed donkeys. [Al-Muddaththir: 50]

Ayat 51

Fleeing from a lion? [Al-Muddaththir: 51]

Ayat 52

Rather, every person among them desires that he1 would be given scriptures spread about.2 [Al-Muddaththir: 52]

Ayat 53

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. [Al-Muddaththir: 53]

Ayat 54

No! Indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder. [Al-Muddaththir: 54]

Ayat 55

Then whoever wills will remember it. [Al-Muddaththir: 55]

Ayat 56

And they will not remember except that Allāh wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. [Al-Muddaththir: 56]
