سورة الليل

"This Surah was recited by the Prophet saws in Dhuhr , Asr and other prayers except the Fajr prayer : - Chapter: The Amount Of Recitation In Zuhr and 'Asr (133) باب قَدْرِ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي صَلاَةِ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ Jabir b. samurah said: When the sun declined, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) offered the noon prayer and recited surahs lie "By the night when it covers over" (92) and (recited similar surahs) in the afternoon prayer, and in the other prayers except the dawn prayer which he used..."

"One of the companions of the Prophet saws - Abdullah bin Mas’ud used to recite Surah Al Lail , exactly as he had heard the Prophet reciting it - Narrated Alqama: I went to Sham and was offering a two-rak`at prayer; I said, "O Allah! Bless me with a (pious) companion." Then I saw an old man coming towards me, and when he came near I said, (to myself), "I hope Allah has given me my request." The man asked (me), "Where are you from?" I replied, "I am from the people of Kufa." He said, "Weren'..."

"Allah taala has created mankind in pairs of male and female and it is only He who whoms whether a woman shall give birth to the male or the female - This can be seen in the following ahadith - Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "The keys of Unseen are five which none knows but Allah: None knows what will happen tomorrow but Allah; none knows what is in the wombs (a male child or a female) but Allah; none knows when it will rain but Allah; none knows at what place one will die..."

"Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah puts an angel in charge of the uterus and the angel says, 'O Lord, (it is) semen! O Lord, (it is now ) a clot! O Lord, (it is now) a piece of flesh.' And then, if Allah wishes to complete its creation, the angel asks, 'O Lord, (will it be) a male or a female? A wretched (an evil doer) or a blessed (doer of good)? How much will his provisions be? What will his age be?' So all that is written while the creature is still in the mother's womb...."

"Ibn 'Abbas said, "I do not know anyone who acts by this ayat: 'Mankind! We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you might come to know each other. The noblest among you in Allah's sight is the one with the most taqwa.' (49:13) One man says to another man, 'I am more noble than you are.' I pushed him back with a push that he was going to fall. Upon this he said: Why do you push me? I said: Why don't you say: O Messenger of Allah? The Jew said: We call him by the name by which he was named by his family. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: My name is Muhammad with which I was named by my..."

"The following hadith sheds light on the fact that Allah taala created all creatures and even plants in pairs of male and female - Musa b. Talha reported: I and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) happened to pass by people near the date-palm trees. He (the Holy Prophet) said: What are these people doing? They said: They are grafting, i. e. they combine the male with the female (tree) and thus they yield more fruit. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: I do not find it to be of any use. The people were..."

"Verse 4 of Surah Al Lail explains that there are people in this duniya who strive to do good for the sake of Allah taala and aim for jannah. In the following hadith, the Prophet saws says that aiming to be good for the sake of Allah is an excellent trait - Ibn 'Abbas reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Right guidance, good behaviour and aiming for what is just and correct is a seventieth part of prophethood." حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، قَالَ‏..."

"Giving sadaqah seeking the pleasure of Allah - Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Wealth does not diminish by giving Sadaqah (charity). Allah augments the honour of one who forgives; and one who serves another seeking the pleasure of Allah, Allah will exalt him in ranks." وعن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال‏:‏ “ما نقصت صدقة من مال، و ما زادالله عبداً بعفو إلا عزاً، وما تواضع أحد لله إلا رفعه الله” ‏(‏‏(‏رواه مسلم‏)..."

"One of the pillars of Islam is the offering of prayer at the prescribed times and is one of the deeds performed five times daily by those who seek the pleasure of Allah taala. The following hadith is related to this - Yahya related to me from Malik from al-Ala ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Yaqub from his father and Ishaq ibn Abdullah that they informed him that they heard Abu Hurayra say, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'When the iqama is called for prayer, do..."

"Hadith on the one who offers more than the obligatory prayers solely seeking the pleasure of Allah - Umm Habibah (May Allah be pleased with her) the Mother of the Believers reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, "A house will be built in Jannah for every Muslim who offers twelve Rak'ah of optional Salat other than the obligatory Salat in a day and a night (to seek the Pleasure of Allah)." "Those who seek the pleasure of Allah through their deeds shall be protected by Allah and those who seek the pleasure of people shall be devoid of the protection of Allah taala - Abdul-Wahhab bin Al-Ward narrated from a man among the inhabitants of Al-Madinah who said: "Mu'awiyah wrote a letter to 'Aishah, that: 'Write a letter to advise me , and do not overburden me.'" He said: "So 'Aishah [may Allah be pleased with her]wrote to Mu'awiyah: 'Peace be upon you. As for what follows: Indeed I..."

"The best of deeds in the sight of Allah - Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked, "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To believe in Allah and His Apostle (Muhammad). The questioner then asked, "What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, "To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's Cause." The questioner again asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, "To perform Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca) 'Mubrur, (which is accepted by Allah and is performed with the..."

"Deeds done seeking the pleasure of Allah will be rewarded by Him - Sa'd bin Abu Waqqas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported in a Hadith included in the chapter of Intention, that Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Whatever you spend seeking thereby the Pleasure of Allah, will have its reward, even the morsel which you put in the mouth of your wife". "Rewards for jihad fi sabilillah - It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar, from the Prophet (ﷺ), of what he related from his Lord, the Mighty and Sublime: "And of My slaves who goes out as a Mujahid striving in the cause of Allah, seeking my pleasure, I guarantee that I will bring him back with whatever he had earned as reward or spoils of war, and if I take his (soul) I will forgive him and have mercy on him." أَخْبَرَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا..."

"The excellent example of Mus’ab ibn Umair who forsook worldly comforts all his life seeking the pleasure of Allah taala - Khabbab al-Aratt reported: We migrated with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the path of Allah seeking Allah's pleasure alone. Thus our reward was assured with Allah. And amongst us were those who spent life (in such a state of piety and austerity) that nothing consumed their reward. Mus'ab b. 'Umair was one of them. He was killed on the Day of Uhud, and nothing but a wool..."

"In stark contrast to the above hadith , are some people who are miserly and who do not seek the pleasure of Allah in any of their deeds and they give bad quality goods as charity . In the following hadith the Prophet saws forbids accepting such goods as charity - Narrated Abu Malik: From Al-Bara (regarding): And do not aim at that which is bad to spend from it (2:267) - he said: "It was revealed about us, the people of the Ansar who were date-palm owners. A man would bring the amount o..."

"The one who gains knowledge merely for worldly gains will be denied the pleasures of paradise - Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said, "He who does not acquire knowledge with the sole intention of seeking the Pleasure of Allah but for worldly gain, will not smell the fragrance of Jannah on the Day of Resurrection." "The following hadith gives the contrasting example of those who strive seeking the pleasure of Allah and those who strive seeking worldly gains - Narrated Abu Al-Minhal: When Ibn Ziyad and Marwan were in Sham and Ibn Az-Zubair took over the authority in Mecca and Qurra' (the Kharijites) revolted in Basra, I went out with my father to Abu Barza Al-Aslami till we entered upon him in his house while he was sitting in the shade of a room built of cane.
